Treks, Expeditions and Via Ferratas

We have been organizing treks & expeditions to international venues since Jeff organized his first expedition to the Himalaya in 2004.  Since, we have organized trips to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro, to South America for expeditions to climb Aconcagua and to trek and climb in Patagonia.  Nepal continues to be a popular destination for us, be it for climbing expedition, to challenging yourself on a trekking peak, or to embark on one of the many trekking circuits around the region.
Upcoming Trips: Trek to Everest Base Camp on May of 2019, Visit Bhutan and trek into the Annapurna Sanctuary in October of 2019, and we are offering a classic trek/climb on Kilimanjaro in 2020.

Trekking

Wander through the mountains, from hut to hut, taking in the scenery and grandeur.  Our focus is on not only appreciating the mountains, but also understanding and soaking in the culture.  Join us and we will show you the special sights and attractions along the way.

Expeditions

Having climbed the 4 highest peaks of the Seven Summits, and organized and led most of the expeditions to those places, Jeff brings a wealth of knowledge to the organization and planning for your trip.  He will personally see that everyones needs are met, and as an IFMGA Guide, he will also make sure the technical and safety issues are being tended to as the trip unfolds.

Via Ferrata

Via Ferrata – climbing the “Iron Ways” as they are known in Italian – is a fun bridge between trekking and climbing that doesn’t require technical skills, but does require a sense of adventure and willingness to venture into exposed places.  Be it for a day trip around Chamonix or Zermatt, or for a week long trek in the Dolomites interspersed with Via Ferrata routes around rock towers and to some easy summits, we are ready to lead an excursion for you.

Trekking

A perfect way to explore the mountains without requiring extra equipment or technical experience.  Our treks travel through beautiful locations, offering rich cultural experiences and a great excuse to travel the world.  Join us for the trip of a lifetime to these destinations:

Home to the renowned Tour du Mont Blanc and the official start of the Haute Route, our home in Chamonix is the perfect kicking off point for two of the most beautiful treks in the Alps, as well as many beautiful day hikes.  We can both organize and/or lead trips for you and your group based on your desire, starting at €300/day.

The Alps have been a premier hiking and trekking destination from the beginning of outdoor tourism.  Allow us to organize and lead your trek along the Haute Route, hiking from hut-to-hut for a week or more, and to other destinations around the Alps that include, but are not limited to:

  • Alta Via routes in the stunning Dolomites
  • hut-to-hut treks through the western Italian Alps
  • the complex & beautiful Matterhorn circuit
  • the lesser known, but incredibly beautiful tours in the Bregalia & Bernina Alps

We have been organizing and leading treks in Nepal since 2004.  Come trek in the Khumbu Region & visit Everest Base Camp, see the stunning Annapurna Sanctuary, venture into the remote upper Mustang and Dolpo regions or take on one of the other classic itineraries in the area.  Have a specific agenda in mind?  Get in touch and let us put the trip together for you.

There are many trekking opportunities in Africa – trips can be organized with huts and tent camping, using porters or going independently, and include destinations such as:

  • Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru in Tanzania
  • Point Lenana of Mount Kenya
  • Walking safaris in Kenya and Tanzania
  • The high Atlas mountains of Morocco
  • Visiting the Mountains of the Moon in Uganda

Join us on one of the Seven Summits that is Kilimanjaro, trek or climb Mount Kenya, hike to the summit of high Atlas in Morocco, or take on a totally different style of adventure to the “Mountains of the Moon” in Uganda and climb Mount Stanley, Africa’s third highest summit.  Offering logistics, organization and guiding all in one package to suit your needs, and always including cultural highlights that represent the area.

With more experience operating expeditions in the Himalaya then any other location, we run a tight ship that assures you a comfortable trip with excellent food and top-notch mountain logistics.  We organize expeditions for anything from technical trekking peaks like Kyajo-Ri and Cholatse to the tallest of the 8000 meter peaks.

We offer expeditions to Aconcagua – South America’s highest peak and one of the Seven Summits, to Ecuador and Patagonia, and also lead climbs in Peru and Chile.  We are currently offering only privately organized trips – get in touch for details.

Jeff has guided and climbed Denali (aka Mount McKinley) several times, including via the renowned Cassin Ridge, the beautiful and technical 9,000 ft south ridge of Denali.  While he doesn’t currently guide on Denali, if you have a group interested in a private expedition, we can operate trips on the West Buttress and West Rib with one of the local operators we have connections with – a legal requirement by the US National Park Service.

Expeditions

Jeff has organized and led expeditions to almost every corner of the globe (there are a few left if you would like to join us).  Be it an adventurous climb to a new location, or returning to “an old friend”, we are ready to organize and lead the trip for you.  Get in touch for details – we offer pricing competitive with the large western guide services, but will offer a custom, private trip with a flexible itinerary.

Via Ferrata / Klettersteig - the "Iron Ways"

Interested in adding a little spice to your hiking or trekking experience, but without the extreme nature of climbing?  Add a via ferrata excursion to your trip.  These equipped routes include cables and iron rungs to facilitate moving across otherwise perilous terrain.  We provide the added expertise of a certified guide to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for you and your group.  Prices start at €300/day

There are some nice via feratta routes around Chamonix, both in the Aiguilles Rouges and in the Arve Valley.  Get in touch for details and to set up a trip!

The Dolomites in northeastern Italy is where the idea of “Via Ferrata” was born.  As Austria and Italy fought over this mountainous frontier during WWI, creating a way for the troops to move quickly through exposed terrain was imperative, and accomplished by blasting sidewalks into cliffs and adding rungs to the cliffs to act as ladders.  In modern times, steel cables have been added to this routes so you can pass safely with a helmet, harness and approved tether system.  Some sections are still quite exposed though, and bring a guide along to show you the way and safeguard tricky transitions is recommended, especially for children and novices.

There are Via Ferrata routes found all around the Alps, and you can find some form of these safeguards on many exposed hiking trails.  We can show you these special places and safeguard your passage along the way.  Destinations include the Bernese Oberland and Zermatt regions.
